Introduction to the 2026-2027 Huntington Robotics team
Huntington Robotics has many fresh faces and new leadership, looking for greatness
Coming off of a successful season, the Huntington Robotics team looks to achieve even more. The Sustainability Award winning team has many new faces with a multitudinous amount of Freshmen and all new leadership. Teacher Sehar Zubair, advisor of team 5016, is ready to help this team through thick and thin. She desires more than just accolades for this team, looking for personal growth, building of high team chemistry and morale, and an experience that Huntington Robotics will never forget.
The new leadership consists of Jake Chiclacos, Dylan Goodwin, and Bennett Wagner. Former vice captain, Jake Chiclacos has ascended to the head captain position. His past Robotics experiences and expertises will ensure that he will be a great leader for Huntington Robotics. Sophomore Dylan Goodwin brings a fresh face to the vice captain position. Last year Dylan was the second most active member of the team based on logged minutes, showing his devotion to team 5016 and care for excellence. Sophomore Bennett Wagner holds the important Chief Technical Officer. This role involves the planning, developing, and execution of the robot. Bennett is an eager, helpful, and conscientious leader and teammate. Even though our leadership mostly consists of Sophmores, that should not be a bad look for this team. Bennett Wagner and Dylan Goodwin hold more wisdom, care, and knowledge than it may seem. Our team is very proud and excited to get to work, under the direction of our great leaders.
Below is an interview of CTO Bennett Wagner:
Q: How long have you been doing Robotics? A: Three very fun and exciting years dating back to Finley Middle School
Q: Where do you get your inspiration for Robotics from? A: My grandfather was a mechanical engineer for General Electric. He inspired me to pursue Robotics and showed me the ropes.
Q: What are your hopes and goals for the team this year? A: Our goals are to go to Worlds, a feat that we unfortunatley missed last year. I want to teach our members important skills that will accompany them throughout their life.
Q: With a very different team, members wise, how will this team morale, chemistry, etc? A: We want to plan many fun events where our team can get to know each other and build unforgetable experiences with each other. We want to build a culture that allows people to express themselves, collaborate wiht people they normally wouldn’t, and many other great things.
Q: From the losses you experienced from last year, what have you guys taken from them and how will you use those failures to succeed this year? A: We have adapted and shifted to a more planned and adaptable strategy where all members have an equal say and contribution. We have learned how to deal with failure and how to persevere.
